Nandi Hills, located just 60 kilometers from Bengaluru, is a serene hill station standing at around 1,478 meters above sea level. Named after Nandi, the sacred bull of Lord Shiva, this destination offers a refreshing escape from city life with its cool breeze and stunning views.
Historically, Nandi Hills was a favorite summer retreat for Tipu Sultan, the ruler of the Kingdom of Mysore. His summer palace, known as Tipu?s Drop, still stands today. This 600-meter cliff was historically used for executions, adding a haunting touch to its beauty.

Getting to Nandi Hills is easy. By road, it takes about 1.5 to 2 hours from Bengaluru via NH44. The roads are well-maintained, and the drive is scenic. Taxis and ride-sharing services like Ola and Uber are convenient options. The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) operates buses from the Kempegowda Bus Station (Majestic) directly to Nandi Hills. Alternatively, you can take a bus to Chikkaballapur and then a connecting bus to Nandi Hills.
If you prefer traveling by train, the nearest railway station is in Chikkaballapur, about 19 kilometers away. From Bengaluru, you can take a train to Chikkaballapur and then hire a taxi or take a local bus to Nandi Hills. Several trains, including the Bengaluru Cantonment-Chikballapur-Cantonment Train, serve this route.
For those flying in, the closest airport is Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru. While there is no direct metro service to Nandi Hills, you can use the Bengaluru Metro to reach a nearby bus station and then take a bus to Nandi Hills. Bus routes like 247, 252F, 265-A, 265B, and 507B pass near Nandi Hills.
Nandi Hills is also popular among cycling and motorbiking enthusiasts. The challenging terrain and scenic views make it an exciting ride. Ensure you have the necessary gear and are prepared for the uphill climb.
